Campfire Extravaganza/Whooping Crane/Julian Saporiti/Flearoy - No Cover/21+
Friday, October 22 at 8:00pm - October 23 at 12:30am
Location Hank's Saloon
46 3rd Avenue
Brooklyn, NY
There will be no cover charge to see these fantastic four groups, about whom you can read below. One is a brand spankin' new enormous Country/Bluegrass group, the second a Brooklyn-based psychedelic riff rock self-styled "gr...oop soup", the third an indie legend from Nashville playing for the first time in a long time without his full band, and the fourth, simply one of the funkiest experiences you will ever have in your life.
See you all there on the 22nd at 8:00!
The Campfire Extravaganza:
A brand new group whose premiere will be at Hank's. A crowd of fiddles, banjos, mandolins, and much more creates the group's dense bluegrass sound.
Whooping Crane:
A Brooklyn quartet that has been whooping up a raucous racket of riff rock since 2008 and boasts an impressive resumé; Guitarist/vocalist Michael "Big Sir the Conductor" Lo has recorded and/or toured with artists from The Phenomenal Handclap Band to Latin soul legend Joe Bataan to garage and punk luminaries such as Richard Lloyd, while percussionist/flute player/guitarist Davey “the Handler” Scott was an alumni of rapper Guru’s live and recording unit. Along with drummer Bushwick Ronnie Seward and bassist Doug Mayer, they combine heavy blues-based guitar tones, funky rhythms and a good dose of hypnotic psychedelic flourishes, topped off with cowbells, fuzz bass, simple-but-anthemic choruses and an overall jivey, blissed-out, good-time spirit.

Julian Saporiti

Flearoy:
Flearoy, an extraordinarily funky collection of five musicians, makes records like they used to be made -- with real people playing real instruments.

SHAKIN' ALL OVER UNDER SIDEWAYS DOWN! New York Night Train’s weekly rough and ready maximum rock’n’soul get-down!
Resident MR. JONATHAN TOUBIN and his 45s return from the west coast in time to make you monkey all night long... And, while that is a weekly reason to celebrate in itself, this time all the excitement revolves around the return of guest DJ MR DAVID JOHANSEN. While this hero of contemporary rock and roll music and cult...ure needs no introduction to New York Night Train party people, few know but probably already imagined that David J likes to dance and party and has great taste in music - throwing together an eclectic melange of all things "dance party" - r&b, rock and roll, girl groups, boogaloos, etc.! This is gonna be a blast...
While next week we go back to the guest list and reduced admission policy, this week is $5 across the board for obvious reasons - so don't ask. As the party is already full as it is, and a rock and roll legend of this caliber has quite a public, please 1) get there early and 2) RSVP BY FRIDAY AT 5PM to MAILINGLIST@NEWYORKNIGHTTRAIN.COM (not to facebook, mr t's phone, etc - the whole list is coming from here) to gain priority admittance. We're not gonna over-pack this one to make sure that this intimate dance party is the best you've ever been to.
A rock and soul fix and great big kiss!

They're smoother than Top40 Adult Contempo and just a tad more fresh with Vj Mamiko Kushida, a tipsy posse, and a smoke machine.
Great music, solid sound-system, lasers, smoke machine and cheap liquor should get you in the right mood.

Our infamous Root Beer Garden features face painting and more activities for kids. Beer and fun for the whole family!!

Looking up other Orlando area attractions for a forthcoming trip, was sad to hear that the 25 year old Mystery Fun House closed years ago. A nice tribute can be found here..

Long lost Miami tourist attractions
I am from Miami Beach originally and one of my biggest regrets was missing out on riding the steeplechase ride at the lost amusement park, Pirates World.
I knew a lot of other oddball attractions such as the still existing Monkey Jungle and Coral Castle. I was able get down and visit the circa 1930s attraction Parrot Jungle before and "moved" and became the toned down "Jungle Island".
Today I learned something fascinating with the discovery of LOST CAVERNS. I have an affinity for caverns where I can ride in boats and have done so at places like the Lost Sea Adventure. Considering that Miami is at zero feet above sea level, the idea that a "lost cavern" existed is quite mindblowing. Apparently, it was essentially a sinkhole, and they had some "trained wild ducks" which flow around peoples heads like pigeons. You can see some photos here and here.
This led to a few other discoveries. As I mentioned earlier, there is/was the well known parrot jungle, but there was also the Rare Bird Farm. Completely forgotten during my lifetime, even though only a few years before I was born they had supplied the monkey that went into space. Info here and here. The latter is long document with pictures a few pages down.

Winkel & Balktick Present...
STRANDED III: THE FORBIDDEN CITY
Saturday, September 4, 2010, 10pm-sunrise
At a palatial warehouse in Brooklyn
Line up, pricing and details TBA
RSVP and questions to info@wandbnyc.com
Facebook: wandbnyc.com/forbiddenfb
Participate: wandbnyc.com/forbidden
= THE STORY =
It was a late midsummer night. Winkel & Balktick searched block after block for the nocturnal paradise of their dreams. With each passing hour, the hope that the bottle service swindles would give way to dens of pleasure and imagination faded.
As they were about to concede defeat, they noticed faint emanations of celestial sound and light from a nearby waterfront street. As they drew near, the sensations of synesthesia grew stronger. Finally, with heads full of kaleidoscopic colors and tones, a man in a red silk robe greeted them with a mischievous grin. “We’ve been expecting you.”
The robed gatekeeper threw open an imperial steel gate. What they beheld next brought tears of joy to their eyes: A clandestine metropolis of dynastic grandeur and libertine attractions. Scantily-clad citizens and eccentric shopkeepers kept them fed with the forbidden fruit of their creative revelry till broad daylight.
On Saturday, September 4th, Winkel & Balktick will share their discovery with a select group of brave urban explorers. Dare you enter the Forbidden City and risk leaving the mundane world behind for good?
= PARTICIPATE =
Winkel & Balktick events are community projects that are created by a group of artists, volunteers and other merrymakers. If you like what you’ve seen or expect from us, we welcome you to join our ranks. We are seeking art projects, performances, music, general volunteers and event/theater/film production professionals. Learn more at wandbnyc.com/participate.
If you’d like to meet us in person, we are holding open meetings and socials for The Forbidden City on Thursday July 22, August 5 and August 19 from 7:30pm-10pm in Dumbo. RSVP to info@wandbnyc.com to attend.
