Creationizm: Believing is Seeing
At our last Creationizm event we wrote an entire novel (about a Chines food delivery boy... read it online soon). This time we're going to create a monumental work of visual art. Paint, pastiche, pasteboard, mixed and matched media, and novelty fabrics. We start the night by pulling the canvas (bring your old canvas bags to cut up and become part of it!) Think of the ceil ing to the sistine chapel, now flip it upside own and add ketchup and relish and that's what we're making tonight at HiChristina. then we let fly with gesso and oil fly. Famous artists like Andy Warhol, The Woman Who Shot Andy Warhol, Dali, and Frida Kahlo, will visit 'from the dead' and help guide the process.

from the new release list....
LES LSD The Joshua Light Show's spectacle once illuminated Bill Graham's legendary Fillmore East, painting technicolor explosions on Hendrix, Zappa and The Who via an improvised mixture of multimedia projections. This week, curator and artist Nick Hallett brings the JLS to Abrons Arts Center for a series of mind-bending audio-visual happenings, including tonight's standout gig, which features synth-punk progenitor Simeon of Silver Apples and colossal psych-rock juggernaut Oneida.
Abrons Arts Center // 466 Grand St, Manhattan // 8p // $15-20 // more info // directions
note: If the show leaves you itching to blast further into outer space, head to Coco66 in Greenpoint for a late-night dance party with sci-fi crate digger Mux Mool, LA's Eliot Lipp and Dutty Artz honcho Matt Shadetek.
another note: If tonight's gig sells out, the Joshua Light Show is also performing Saturday with Spectrum (aka British cult favorite Sonic Boom).

MAIN GALLERY EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
ARTIST TALK: "observant"
Curated by Vicki Sher
Artist(s): Chris Doyle, Cynthia Lin, Jenny Dubnau, Mike Bayne, Molly Springfield, Paolo Arao, David Clarkson
Wednesday, May 19, 6-8PM
In "Observant", curator Vicki Sher has gathered together artists for whom slowing down the act of looking is important. These artists are masterful at reproducing by hand images taken from technological source material. This panel discussion with the artists will discuss their choice of source material, and their feelings about representation. We will ask how slowing down the making of images functions as a way to re-humanize the images themselves and our relationship to them. The group will discuss both their technical processes and the various inspirations behind the art in the show.

GET INVOLVED IN THE MARKET HOTEL PROJECT!
next Project meeting: THURSDAY MAY 20TH, 8PM
@ MARKET HOTEL - 957 Broadway, Brooklyn | JMZ - Myrtle/Broadway
ANNOUNCING - a new initiative to create a sustainable, all ages, open-to-the-community, 7-nights-a-week home for independent music and art, in the Market Hotel space. Market Hotel has existed for over two years and in that time has hosted countless legendary events and drawn huge international notice… all of this under the constraints of operating completely underground and with no budget. Now the time has come to channel that momentum and create a fully realized space that serves the whole community, that will help define the NYC / Brooklyn scene into the future.
MARKET HOTEL PROJECT is a new not-for-profit organisation dedicated to swiftly reopening and improving the Market Hotel space, by making the venue more viable, comfortable, safe, and better able to weather legal attention. Especially in these days of ever-encroaching commercialism and corporatism in “indie rock,” we envision a space that is a non-commercial “spiritual home” for independent rock music and indie art - but also is sustainable and sanctioned enough to expand indie horizons and open our doors to music and art from the rest of our diverse Bushwick community.
Get involved! Write to us with ideas and ideas for help. thx!

'Second Wind' Group Show
Opening Reception:
Fri, May 21st, 6pm - 10pm
After an incredibly successful and slightly scandalous 'First Taste', Arch Collective is now moving on to it's 'Second Wind', and boy oh girl are we excited.
This time around things get a bit more sculptural, a bit more abstract, and quite a bit personal with works by Bobby Dupree, Heather Garland, S.E. Nash, Amanda O'Keefe, and Stephen Wilson. There will also be a special video presentation by Ashley Connor. And if you made it to our First Taste then you already know about our infamous bath tub. If not then wait and see as Ariel Brickman brings another live installation for your viewing pleasure. A good time will be had by all with art for the viewing, music for the grooving, and drinks for the refreshment'ing.
