The Geek Girls present 'Wonka!,' a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory tribute show
6/22, Back Room, 9 pm, $10, $5 RSVP
Wonka!
Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010, 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM at Public Assembly, Brooklyn, NY
Enter a world of pure imagination.
Ever since its conception, Willy Wonkas Chocolate Factory has always conjured up images of candies and sweets,
of things tempting to the eye but guarded against the touch by the warnings of the eccentric Wonka. On June 22
nd
Geek Girl burlesque brings you that same titillation. Come join the girls of Geek Girl as they embark on their own
interpretation of the fabled chocolate factory. Mixing together the sweetness of candy into their acts, but remaining
as forbidden to the touch, these performances will surely tickle your particular sweet tooth.
Wonka!' will be held at Public Assembly in Brooklyn. Just a short walk from the Bedford Avenue L, Public
Assembly is located at 70 North 6th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11211.

Terrence Parker and Mister Saturday Night at Puma Social Club
Start Time: Monday, June 28, 2010 at 9:00pm
End Time: Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 1:00am
PUMA Social Club (210 Front St at Beekman St, at the South Street Seaport)
It's hard to believe that Terrence Parker has never played in New York City. The Detroit DJ and producer has long been one of the most technically proficient jocks in Michigan,But for whatever reason, he's not graced the decks in our fair town, so tonight's set is novel treat.
Joining Mister Parker are two of New York's most revered DJs, Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter. The pair commandeer the music (and all the other elements) at the regular Mister Saturday Night fete that's been at the forefront of the down-home, underground party scene in New York over the past couple years; and they're two of the gents behind the beloved Sunday Best soiree. As DJs they're always surprising and exciting, drifting from house anthems into weird edits and deep soul.
Best of all, the whole thing's free -- even the bar's on the house for the first hour of the evening.
Oh, yeah. There's foosball and ping pong, too.

HULLABALOO Fri June18 w/FOSTER CARE,TWIN GUNS,SPLIT SIGNALS,MADAM ROBOT
Start Time: Friday, June 18, 2010 at 9:00pm
Location: PUBLIC ASSEMBLY
Street: 70 N. 6th St
City/Town: Brooklyn, NY
Friends! Killers! Lovers! Drinkers!
Remember April 23rd?
No? Neither do we! Our last show at Public Assembly was so jaw-sockingly great, we completely erased everything from our memories, save for flashes of some of the greatest live rock'n'roll we've seen in over 3 years of binge drinking, er, booking shows. There was shiny shark-suited ramalama, streetpunk so perfectly dramatic it would make Hamlet blush and even, ahem, floor pizza!
This month's edition is the final show to be filmed for KILLER DILLER Records' New York DVD. In addition to the 10 bands already filmed, we're wrapping up the shooting with some of our favorite groups active in the scene today:
- FOSTER CARE
"This is my favourite punk band in NYC! No, in the world. And by 'in the world' I mean mean they're pretty rad and do it true." - S. Bakula
- TWIN GUNS
a two-headed savage beast that would make Jack White quake in his $2000 boots. Motorcycle mayhem without the motorcycle. Loud as leather!
- THE SPLIT SIGNALS
will be filmed for only their 2nd or 3rd show, but don't let the unfamiliar name fool you as this group is comprised of some of the leading lights of New York's garage inner circle including Jonny Chan, Mike Sin (Insomniacs), Michael Lynch (Royal Purple/Anything People) and Stu Rutherford (Brimstones)
- MADAM ROBOT & THE LUST BRIGADE
helmed by the good Captain Heartlock, this hairy bunch practice the kind of '68 style garage/psych that so few bands can master. Earsplitting solos, danceable melodies and lysergic candy for all!
As always, it will be SHIMMY and CHARLES GASKINS plus a sooper special guest DJ on the decks (TBA soon!)
Cover is only $7, but make sure to dress up rite -- you might not remember anything the next day, but it's for posterity!

SUBWAY SOUL CLUB will present its famous GIRLS
NIGHT--when we gather some of our favorite female DJs and have them
spin their sweetest sixties soul records all night long.
Among this year's participants are Connie T Empress (Empire State Soul
Club), Miss Mary-Clancey (Hot Dog), Girlsoul (Soul A' Go-Go), The
Fabulous Lynne K (Union Pool), Jennie Wasserman (Sweet Divines) and DJ
Shakey (Shakey's Record Fair, Rubulad, etc)--plus, resident DJ Phast
Phreddie the Boogaloo Omnibus will wear a wig when he is spinning!!
Folks, the women DJs in this town are some of the best DJs PERIOD! In
more ways than one, a night like this is a thing of beauty to behold.
Dare it be said: Six swingin' soul sisters and Phast Phreddie (in a
wig!)
Make that SEVEN swingin' soul sisters, counting the SUBWAY SOUL CLUB
founder and hostess Lady Dawn, who will make you feel at
home--assuming your home has a big wooden dance floor, a disco ball,
swingin' sixties projections on the wall and and a bar.
The entrance is an unmarked door between Public Assembly and the Music
Hall of Williamsburg. Look for the SUBWAY SOUL poster on the door and
the groovy people going through it.
Admission is a mere $6.00 [This helps defray costs, pays the DJs and
weeds out that undesirable element--those who stand on the dance floor
and text]
NOTE: If you are attending the HULLABALOO show downstairs in Public
Assembly the same night, your admission to SSC will only be $3, after
your paid admission to Hullabaloo.

Assembly is located at 70 North 6th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11211.

Day of the Big Game: PLAY!
Welcome to the HiChristina Draft: play the made-up Big Game today! All you need to participate is a rule from any game you like. For example, you can't walk unless you bounce the ball--Basketball. Or A straight beats a flush--Poker. Or, each person has 60 seconds to talk to their partner-Speed Dating. Pick a rule from any game and come ready to PLAY (No athletic skill required)! We'll combine all the rules into one great game with halftime, commercials, background feel good stories, and the whole 9 yards! We know you were the best pickoleeno player in your college league, now it's time for the big league (chew!). Play and help make up the rules to this wild conglomeration of pastime sports. The game will be filmed with two action cameras and shown at a future HiChristina event: Watch the Big Game. This event takes place at HiChristina and a park nearby. Street: 722 Metropolitan Ave
City/Town: Brooklyn, NY
june 4 - June 27, 2010

Opening reception: June 4th, 6pm - 10pm (concurrent with B.O.S.)

Drawing of the Year is an exhibition comprised of works on paper by most of the artists that have shown at Camel over the past year; a year in review if you will. The works in show will be 'drawing/printmaking/photography' related, but this theme will also be interpreted more loosely, taken more liberal towards whatever means lies within the artist's methodology. Simultaneously will this be a celebratory event to toast to the anniversary of Camel Art Space. As will this exhibition partly coincide with Bushwick Open Studios.
Participating Artists include: Sarah McDougald Kohn • Ben Needham • Sam Martineau • Chris McGee • Tiana Peterson • Lance Lankford • Peter Lapsley • Matthew Murphy • Nick van Woert • Hilary Doyle • Maria Kondratiev • Julie Torres • Elisa Velazquez • Chris Martin • Maria Walker • Christine Rogers • Nora Griffin • Rachel Salamone • Carl Gunhouse • Thom Marquet • Lauren Portada • Catherine Stack • Jeremy Roby • Chris Burnside • Nathan Gelgud • Alisa Ochoa • James Woodward • Enrico Gomez • Colm Feehan • Chris Rawson • Jessica Smith • Reid Hitt • Fred Spadafora • Connie Golden • Jeff Burdian • Helena Wurzel • Yuliya Lalina • Erin Shafkind • Brian Buckley • Millie Falcaro • Bryan Graf • Julia Colavita • Molly Lowe • Adam Taye

(Found) Public Art: Street Aesthetics and Public Space
Date: Saturday, June 5, 2010
Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Location: Lumenhouse
Street: 47 Beaver St.
City/Town: Brooklyn, NY
This presentation and discussion will explore the topic of public art through the lens of street aesthetics in neighborhood context. Part of the 2010 Bushwick Open Studios presented by Arts In Bushwick (www.artsinbushwick.org)
Two urban sociologists – Sharon Zukin and Laura Braslow will present their take on the street aesthetics of their neighborhoods – Greenwich Village and Bushwick, respectively. By offering a photographic walking tour of this “found public art” in each neighborhood, we will explore what aesthetics are at work on the streets of our neighborhoods in the context of discourses around public space, public art, and neighborhood change.
We will then open up the discussion to public art producers, activists, artists, other community members, and visitors. What public art have you found? What is public art, and what are the aesthetics of your streets?
