“Hero, Villain, Yeti: Tibet in Comics”
Characters as diverse as Mickey Mouse, the historical Buddha, Tomb Raider Lara Croft, and the Green Lama have something in common: Tibet. For more than sixty years Tibet has figured in comic books from around the world, at times creating and at times perpetuating notions of an otherworldly land roamed by the yeti, inhabited by wise and powerful lamas, or full of dark magic.
Hero, Villain, Yeti features the most complete collection of comics related to Tibet ever assembled, with examples ranging from the 1940s to the present. More than fifty comic books from the Belgium, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, and the United States reflect on the depiction of Tibet, tracing the historical roots of prevailing perceptions and stereotypes and their visual and narrative evolution over time.

Friday, December 30, 2011
10:00pm until 3:30am
Otto's Shrunken Head, 538 East 14th Street btw. Ave. A & B, New York, NY
REAL GONE presents a ROCKIN' HOLIDAY NIGHT of Ho Ho Hos!
Join us on December 30th at Otto's Shruken Head for a night of Chick-infused Rock/Punk/Post-Punk/New-Wave/Funk and a heavy-dose of Glitter and GLAM!
10pm- The Lovely: Two hot mamas and one hot dude who rock with the power of 500 Andromedas. Raw lyrics intertwined with thunderous punk.
11pm- Auto Bonfire (*Debut Gig!*): Inspired by bands from the late 70's and early 80’s, Auto Bonfire blends a poppy, new romantic sound with a darker, post-punk edge. (Featuring Esther & Derek of The Electric Mess!)
12am- Discovery: Discovery makes deep and groovy music--mingling rock with funk. The band's live sets bring rhythmic Afro-beat and Latin elements to mix with smooth, spacey tones. Comparisons have included new wave acts like Human League and The Creatures.
Djs Xerox, Kathleen Lupe Loop, Moonray, and Kitty Beat spin rock, punk and new wave all night long! And it's Patty Garcia's (bassist for The Lovely) birthday bash! Drink Special in her honor: The Hot Garcia! (Much prettier than the "Hot Toddy"!)
NO COVER!
