I live in New York, not close, but not terribly far from Coney Island. If I go to one of my many local hot dog joints, including Nathans and order up a Coney Dog, however, they will look at me like I have 3 heads. Coney Dogs don't exist in New York City.
According to Wikipedia, a "Coney" is either a hot dog with onions, mustard and Chili, or in parts of New York (those parts of New York nowhere near Coney Island) it is a white hot dog, aka a "white hot" which is really sort of a baby Bratwurst.
The places that have Coneys completely surround New York. You can find them in Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New Jersey and reach far out in the midwest. For me to have one though, I have to wait for my big road trip coming up.
