we went to a wedding at this joint last month and the building is spectacular. Its only 25 minutes from manhattan, literally 25 yards from the Journal Sq path station.........
from the nonsense list....
Loews New Jersey
Films in the grand movie palace. Tonight: The Uninvited, Rebecca.
Months ago, the Loew's Jersey announced plans to show 1944's classic gothic mystery the Uninvited. Unfortunately -- and incredibly -- we belatedly discovered that no print of the movie existed. (And this is why the legendary film hadn't been shown theatrically in years.) But now, at our urging, Universal Pictures has struck a new print, which will be shown for the first time at the Loew's -- finally giving lovers of classic film the chance to experience The Uninvited the way it was meant to be seen: on the big screen in a mint print.
And because the Uninvited was first publicized as being From the Most Popular Mystery Romance Novel Since Rebecca -- we decided to pair it with that classic from Alfred Hitchcock.
Loews
54 Journal Square, Jersey City
6p Uninvited, 8:15p Rebecca; $7 adults, $5 for seniors, children, and students

HT-This is the final nail in the coffin for hipster travel, when bohemian hipsters talk about the time "before hipsters". Trashy Travel is coming soon.
The Madagascar Institute and Dark Passage present:
Everything Was Better Before
A celebration and commiseration of when New York City was so much cooler back in the Good Old Days, before everything went to shit, before hipsters, before gentrification, before Giuliani, before Bloomberg, before investment bankers, before the recession, before the Internet, before I met you, before men stopped wearing hats, before men started wearing hats ironically, before irony, before Bushwick, before we sold out, before we cashed in, before before before, which by an amazing coincidence was when you were young and goodlooking and unjaded.
Our tenth anniversary, with three events in one day: The Madagascar Institute's dramatic re-creation of a pivotal naval battle, with twists that will surprise, delight, and confound you; a Dark Passage frolic that is, by its very nature, a secret that we cannot tell you; and a Time Machine disguised as a collaborative block party.
Part 1: Revenge of the Future. An informative, historical brunch by the balmy shore of Prospect Park Lake. Look for red flags. 11a brunch (BYOEverything), 11:45a show. Be on time, if you are late you will miss it.
Part 2: Dark Passage Frolic. It is a secret.
Part 3: A collaborative, distributed time machine, in the clever guise of a block party by the scenic Gowanus Canal. Bands, entertainments, informational games, and at 9p the inauguration of a big honking machine that will render everything better before, now and forever, as long as things do not go horribly horribly wrong.
Part 1
Prospect Park
South Side of Prospect Park Lake, near Wellhouse Road, Brooklyn
11a brunch, 11:45a show; $free
Part 3
2nd Street and Bond, Brooklyn
2:30-9p; $free

I just moved in to my new place that I'll be starting an experiential speakeasy in. I have my empty old Williamsburg apartment til the end of the month. It looks like the inside of an abandoned hobo boxcar train. So it's time for a hobo speakeasy house party and it's time to go out with fireworks.

There will be a cheap ass cash bar, baked beans in the fire, photobooth, some small performances, large fireworks and other inappropriates.

Rubulad Presents: The End of an Airwave

In the summertime, our Hassidic neighbors tend to become extremely agitated over our states of so-called "undress," so rather than get all in their faces, can we ask you to approach Rubulad via Classon Ave. rather than Taffee? It would really defuse a lot of community tension.

Beyond Survive - We Thrive!
Economic Recession, Energy Crisis, Global Warming… Okay, so what are we going to do about it?
On Sunday, May 31, join a city-wide gathering of innovating individuals, groups, nonprofits, government organizations, and local businesses who are transforming today’s challenges into opportunities. Discover how we New Yorkers can re-imagine our beloved Big Apple, making it resilient, thriving, funky, healthy, and green.
The event features workshops, panels, music, art, food, info tables, and more. Speakers will specifically address how YOU can make a direct impact in their area of expertise. Topics include: Renewable Energy & Efficiency, Green Jobs, Food Justice, Conscious Health and Living, Locally Supported Agriculture, Climate Change, DIY ART, Rooftop & Community Gardens, Media Activism, Resilient Neighborhoods & Communities, Local/Alternative Currency, and more.
Each person will come away with the ideas, information, connections, and contacts they need for getting involved within the community. Be a part of the local solution.
This event will celebrate the launch of Evolver.net, a social network for conscious collaboration, and mark the beginning of their off-line community, Evolver NYC. This is the first in a series of events to bring New York’s diverse “tribes of transformation†together to enact meaningful change.
