Foods of Brooklyn
Sherri Eisenberg, author of The Food Lovers' Guide to Brooklyn
With tastings from local restaurants No. 7, Cake Man Raven, Habana Outpost, and more
And prints of photographs from the book by Michael Harlan Turkell
Greenlight Bookstore | 686 Fulton Street | Brooklyn | NY | 11217
Our beloved borough of Brooklyn is not only a literary mecca, but a paradise for local food culture as well! With world-class restaurants, talented food artisans, and fresh local markets galore, there's a lot to explore. Author Sherri Eisenberg is an award winning travel writer and has been wandering the globe for over a decade, penning pieces on restaurants and hotels in places like Bora Bora and Bangkok; in Food Lovers' Guide to Brooklyn she turns her palate to her own hometown, exploring the tried and true icons as well as the outposts of New Brooklyn Cuisine. To bring you a real taste of Brooklyn, several of our favorite local restaurants will offer free tastings of their wares at the event. And for the first time, photographer Michael Harlan Turkell will display the mouth-watering food photographs he took for the book. Stay tuned for an updated lineup of participating restaurants, and join us for a tasty way to spend an August evening!

Sky Box End of Summer Variety Show
Monthly Variety Shows are extra special because they happen every month. After a huge success in July with our largest crowd ever and a write up in the New York Times, we've put together an all new line up of all-star aerial acts for August. Whether your missed last month's epic show or you want to come back for more, August's show is a great opportunity to see what all the fuss about aerial is about. Featuring Sky Box co-founder Jordann Baker and burlesque and trapeze wonder Harvest Moon, this month's show will also include doubles lyra, corde lisse, rope, silk, trapeze and whatever surprises MC Kae Burke has up her sequined sleeves!

After Party for the Fort Greene Park Literary Festival
Music, refreshments, and signing with Festival authors and hosts
The 6th annual Fort Greene Park Summer Literary Festival will present a free outdoor reading on August 21st at 3:00 PM at the top of the park, featuring young writers (seven to eighteen-year-olds) reading alongside six poets who have appeared at the annual Calabash International Literary Festival in Jamaica and in the anthology So Much Things to Say: Kwame Dawes, Gregory Pardlo, Willie Perdomo, Carl Hancock Rux, Patricia Smith, and Cheryl Boyce Taylor. Created by the wonderful Fort Greene nonprofit organization New York Writers Coalition, this exciting event brings several generations of writers together to build on the rich literary traditions of the neighborhoods surrounding beautiful Fort Greene Park.
Greenlight is honored to be the alternate "rain venue" for the event, and to welcome all of the authors and audience to the bookstore after the event for music, mingling, refreshments, and a chance to purchase copies of So Much Things to Say and get them autographed by the featured authors.
